Esbjerg Court and Arrest House is a medieval castle in the middle of Esbjerg. Refined details in the masonry, crenellated gables and a tower that stretches 30 meters towards the sky.

The old courthouse and prison, designed by the architect HC Amberg in 1892, is a striking building in Esbjerg. Both in the cityscape and in the city's history. Without the persistent efforts of the townspeople, the house would never have been built. Enterprising people themselves made sure to buy the land for the house, and as far back as the 1870s there was pressure to be allowed to build a courthouse and detention center in Esbjerg.

Realdania Byg has carried out a thorough restoration and redesign of both the courthouse and the jail - the jail had been unused since 1947. Now the house can once again, after many years of wear and tear, be beautiful, usable and inviting. Prison cells have become meeting rooms, a new gate transforms courtyards into urban spaces, and in the anteroom, original room courses and doorways have been recreated. The historic house from 1892 is again ready to take on the role of the town house.

In 2010, Realdania Byg bought the property from Tinghus Fonden in Esbjerg, which still rents the building. Destination Wadden Sea Coast and Esbjerg Municipality are among the users of the courthouse and detention center, which, among other things, forms the framework for weddings and event and relocation secretariats.

There is access to the wedding rooms on the 1st floor for weddings.
