Esbjerg Railway Station from 1904

Distance: 0.60 Km

Esbjerg Station was built in 1904 and was designed by DSB's chief architect Heinrich Wenck (1851-1936), who influenced the architecture of DSB for more than a generation (employed 1882-1921).

The architecture bears several characteristic features of the time period, which looks both back to Denmark's former greatness with its castle-like appearance and to industrialization's possibilities for mass production and the use of new materials - this can be seen in the cast iron columns that support the platform roofs.

Esbjerg Station is beautifully restored by several laps. The building has won the Esbjerg Byfond's award for the beautiful restoration work of the ceiling in the waiting room, which gives the waiting room some grandiosity with its exposed rafters and patterned ceiling boards.

The building was re-awarded in 2002 for a complete and beautiful facade renovation.

In 1983, the building was preserved.
