Nordby - Fanø's capital

The ferry route to Fanø runs from Esbjerg to Nordby. Already on the ferry you get your first impression of the island and of Nordby. A small, cozy town, characterized by the many beautiful houses from the 1800th century, and surrounded by beautiful nature.

The closeness to nature can already be felt at the harbour. From the harbor promenade you can sit and enjoy the many wading birds, and often there are seals on the small sandbank (Søjorden) 50 m from the harbor. 

When compared to old photographs, one can see that many small streets and roads have not changed significantly in centuries. One must not cheat yourself for the great experience it is to stroll around the small crooked streets of Nordby.

Nordby is also a modern and vibrant city. With its 2.800 inhabitants, the town is the commercial and administrative center on Fanø. Here is the town hall, school, health center, library, sports hall, tourist office and most other institutions.
